Prairie smoke
Reddish-purple, bell-like flowers rise above fern-like basal leaves in spring. Feathery pink-gray fruits in summer. Setting seeds create a gauzy effect resembling smoke, thus its common name. The leaves turn red in fall.
Moist, well drained to dry soil, sun to part shade, 8–16” tall.
